In the world of modern sculpture, materiality is used as a device to regulate the experience on how reality and fiction are perceived. Opacity, reflection and color all allow us to experience designed and choreographed versions of reality. Contemporary technologies such as digital animation often aim to simulate and depict such material properties through algorithms and attempt to mimic the material world as we experience it. Spectrum utilizes cutting edge optical and simulation technologies to embed the audience into digital art forms real time. By feeding live camera feeds into a game engine, Spectrum creates an interactive and ever changing distortions of reality. The audience can see their own reflection on the digital and undulating forms on its LED surfaces, while the environmental parameters such as light and architectural context is grafted into the art work. By taking the audience on a journey from material to digital effects, Spectrum aims to proliferate the formal experience of sculpture and the narrative possibilities of cinema simultaneously, creating a bridge between different artistic mediums while enhancing the human experience as they travel between multitudes of realities.
